In October 2020, the advocacy organisation "It's Not A Compliment" launched their newest campaign in their efforts to reduce street harassment, entitled "Our Public Spaces." Over 200 posters were pasted in Melbourne CBD and surrounding suburbs, and as a promotional item we manufactured branded face masks.
INAC as an organisation focuses on sharing stories people bravely submit about their experiences with street harassment. So many of these stories are veined with racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny. While many of the experiences happen to women, we wanted to also share how these identities converge for many people and how that affects how they are treated on the streets and in public spaces.
As the senior designer for this campaign, I was tasked with creating a unique identity for our message. I also created content for the media kit and instagram. The imagery revolved around giving a face to the voices we hope to empower for our audience to relate to. We wanted to represent the diversity of people who have experienced street harassment in Melbourne to draw attention to the issue and broaden people's understanding.
